Lendlease has announced that their Brisbane Showgrounds project, home to Kingsgate (formerly known as K1), has been recognised as a world-leading sustainability precinct. The Brisbane Showgrounds has gained a 6 Star Green Star – Communities v1 rating from Green Council Building of Australia (GBCA). It is the highest available rating, independently verified and reserved for projects that are amongst the best in the world.

We are very proud of how our properties have contributed to this recognition. We would love to share some of the details with you.

  • The rating is for the entire Brisbane Showgrounds precinct, which was master-planned and developed by Lendlease.
  • The precinct’s public art, education work and heritage storytelling fed into the 6 Star rating, but the excellent environmental performance of the individual buildings also make an important contribution.
  • Kingsgate played a key role in achieving this broader recognition. It was recently awarded the highest available NABERS energy rating: 6 stars.
  • The forthcoming 25 King property, by virtue of its innovative use of engineered timber and the other sustainability features, was also a vital part of the Showgrounds overall rating.

This latest recognition also reflects that the precinct has greatly improved an area of Brisbane that was severely under-utilised. The regenerated precinct has opened up tracts of public spaces, ushered in commercial activity, and strongly supports the arts and education.

We congratulate Lendlease on this achievement and celebrate our partnership with them on Kingsgate and 25 King.
