Lendlease and Australia’s leading impact fund manager Impact Investment Group (IIG) are pleased to announce that IIG’s Kingsgate property in Brisbane has been awarded the coveted 6 Star Base Building National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) energy rating.

The property is a premium nine storey commercial office tower known as Kingsgate, located at 1 Kings Street in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane. IIG acquired the property from Lendlease in July 2015 for $113.8 million, with a commitment from Lendlease to occupy the building as its anchor tenant for a minimum initial term of 12 years.

This is an important milestone as Kingsgate is the first building to be awarded a 6 Star Base Building NABERS Energy rating in Queensland without using green power. This further demonstrates the leadership of both IIG and Lendlease in driving sustainable building practices and creating a shared vision for sustainable, healthy and beautiful community-centred places.

This milestone also builds on previous environmental certifications and awards, including a total of four 6 Star Green Star certifications in Office Design v3, As Built v3, Interiors by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and now NABERS Energy. Being awarded these ratings demonstrates IIG’s uncompromising belief that it can continue to attain and develop properties that set new standards for sustainability.

Darren Brusnahan from IIG says, “There is immense pride from our team about the Kingsgate building achieving this status. It is a privilege to work on this project with a highly dedicated team including Lendlease, property manager Jones Lang La Salle and resource efficiency experts Buildings Alive. The whole team is just as passionate as we are about being leaders in raising the benchmark for sustainable building practices.”

Brisbane Showgrounds Project Director, Andrew Hay said Kingsgate’s outstanding achievement demonstrates the possibilities when an unwavering commitment to sustainability is integrated early in a project.

“Lendlease are pioneers in the green building movement and continue to demonstrate leadership and innovation by creating places that deliver value for the environment, economy and the community,” he said.

Designed and built by Lendlease, Kingsgate is one of the most environmentally sustainable commercial buildings in Australia.
